Welcome to our new electro-music.org

We recently made a major upgrade to the site, the changes I announced in September. Here is what is new.

A new domain: electro-music.org

The site is now electro-music.org. The old .com address keeps working and brings you here; it's not going away. So we now have two addresses that work. I hope this isn't too confusing. Your login, your posts and your bookmarks all still work.

This site has always belonged to our community, and I think a .org name is more appropriate than .com. We have never been, and never will be, commercial.

New players for the radio

On the radio page there are two new players. At the top of the list of stations there is a button, Mini radio player. This is now the default player for phones and little screens, and it works on big screens too. It's great for listening to electro-music while driving. It resembles an old-style car radio, with push buttons for the stations.

Next to each station there are two links. pop-up opens a similar player for that one station. external gives you a stream link for stand-alone programs like VLC or Winamp.

Playlists for everyone

There is a new item on the blue menu bar at the top of our pages called Playlists. Click it to see every public playlist on the site. Press the Play button on a list and a small pop-up player opens. The player lets you skip around in the track list if you'd like. It makes it easy to discover the excellent music that has been posted on electro-music.

A convenient way to see someone's playlists is to look at their profile. You get to a profile by clicking a member's avatar, or almost anywhere you see a username. When a member looks at your profile they see your playlists, if you have made any, just as your profile shows your forum posts, audio files, location, and so on.

There's a link to edit your own profile at the top of every forum page when you are logged in. That is where you enter your registration information, change your password, location, and so on. On the left there are several links. Manage playlists takes you to (...more...)

This post is inspired by Jan's post in "wave clays"

In the early 70s I was invited to a party in San Francisco attended by several jazz and avant guard improvisers. I didn't know anyone. We all brought acoustic instruments as nobody had electronic ones at that time. I showed up with a conch shell.

Anyway, the host (I'll call her Mary) projected scores on a screen and (...more...)
