Hello,

I found a lovely dual output +-15v psu at 150 mA and would like to know if I can power both my SN-voice and Mankato with it.

Scott mentions ''110 mA @ +15V, -100 mA @ -15V. '' in this thread : http://electro-music.com/event2008/forum/post-226286.html
for the SN-voice but i could'nt find anything for the mankato.
[EDIT]That is the current draw for the Appendage, sorry my bad. So i need to know for both the mankato and the Sn-voice.

I guess it would be a bit pushing it at 150 mA, but, a guy can dream Smile

The psu is a Lambda LZD-23 and it's mounted on a McCurdy radio ltd. pcb that's very hackable.

thanks in advance for any help.[/quote]

The specs for the Mankato only come if you buy a PCB from Magic Smoke. The Mankato was never a project here on the forum. If you PM Tim Servo, I'm sure that he'll be happy to advise though. Smile

Well, for the SNV:

In an estimation, without actually measuring the current, the SN Voice current usage would be:

SN76477 10 mA worst case
(LF444 x 2) 1.6 mA (200 uA per amplifier x 8
CD4046 @ 10 kHz should be about 0.4 mA

That comes to 12 mA. factor in a small bit of other circuitry, and I would say worst case is probably 30 to 40 mA. That should be fairly close. I should really specify the REAL current draw in my documentation that comes with my board.

Now just take a peek at the Mankato schematic and tally up the current in a similar way to get a good "ball park" figure.

Is that 150 mA per side of your +/- 15 V supply or is that the total supply current?

Bill

Thanks for the info Bill! The ps reads:

dual regulated power supply
max. output +- 15V 150MA

So I guess it's total.

I'll look up the datasheet for the mankato IC's and do the addition (why i didn't think of that!)

thanks a lot Smile

With a bit of luck and a following wind, I'll be finishing the construction of both a Mankato and an SN-Voice this weekend.

If they behave themselves, I'll let you know what the actual current consumption is for each of them.

Regards

That would be really nice of you, i'd do that myself but I'm still missing components to finish my builds.

thanks!

Hi Everybody,

Last time I checked, the Mankato draws about 40mA total (about 20mA from each rail). In theory, you should be okay with 150mA for a Mankie and an SN-Voice. Smile

I keep a spreadsheet of power supply consumption on my web site
http://modularsynthesis.com/modules/tips/tips.htm

My Mankato is stock and draws 35 mA from each supply rail.

Awesome, thanks for the update Dave. Obviously my figures were a bit low. Very nice chart by the way.
