It was a toss-up for me whether to put this here or in production or Linux as a workstation.

Anyway, does anyone use Rosegarden? I'm trying to figure out why Rosegarden 10.04 records MIDI just fine but does not play back on the device and channel I've selected. I've confirmed my interface, hardware and jack works by using qtractor, with which I can record and play back MIDI.

I'm using an Emagic AMT8 and an external MIDI synth. In Rosegarden, I set up devices for each of the 8 ports on the AMT8, for both record and playback. Using qjackctl, I connected AMT8 port 4 to Rosegarden record in. Arm track and record. MIDI is captured. Then I connect the Rosegarden device AMT port 4 (playback), to the actual AMT8 port 4 in qjackctl. This all worked for qtractor, but at this point, for Rosegarden, nothing happens. I can play back my recorded MIDI in Rosegarden through a synth plugin, but not on my hardware.

I have no clue what I'm missing. I've done everything right. I'd appreciate any help.

EDIT:

I found the problem. Change the MIDI settings from "hrtimer" to "system timer" or "auto". I'm used to most of my Linux machines using hrtimer, but this one uses an rt kernel and therefore an rt clock, not hrtimer.

Argh.
