So. I recently came across a craigslist post for a broken lead 2x. It was for $500 and the owner claimed that all it would take was an operating system reboot to work. I figured for the price it might be worth it, thinking that I'd be able to resell for roughly the same to some other risk taker.

He said his roomate - a fan of vintage synths - wanted to see what the inside looked like, and, in his exploring, unplugged the ribbon between the boards, causing the operating system to go crazy.

At this point - the main lcd flickers with nonsensical numbers, as do a good amount of the lcd indicators around the knobs. (primarily to the left side of the layout) There's no sound.

I took it to a amp/keyboard repair shop that I've had great results with before...until now. They said they found a couple existing solder spots around the ribbon and that they re-soldered them, which fixed the problem. I went to pick it up today and, with my spidey-sense going off, I asked to test it. To my surprise, nothing had changed and the keyboard is still completely useless. (It appears the most of the knobs and switches still toggle their parameters - ex: the ring modulator button still toggles through on / off / paired with the other mod)

Anways, they insist they're going to attempt the reboot at this point, working with the clavia. Apart from scolding me for my poor choice in purchase - do i chalk this up as a loss? Is it fried? Anyone know of any decent repair shops in the philadelphia area?

I really got my hopes up!

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a hardware problem to me ... maybe the cable got damaged .. that way it could both be true that it got "fixed" and is still broken.

Are you sure you have a NordLead2X? Looks a NordLead3 to me…

Seems a NL3 to me!

Maybe they could send you a copy of the latest OS software…

The trouble is the NordLead3 is already a long time out of production and a lot of hardware isn’t available anymore.
As Jan suggested I should try to replace the cable first.
