Just thought I might drop a line in the introductions thread here and say “Hello!”. I’ll be visiting the Circuit Bending area of the forum. My name’s Jonathan Passow and I’ve been into Noise music for about 4 years now and circuit bent my first toy (which subsequently died shortly afterwards….made a cool death rattle though) a year ago.

Since I’ve started to play gigs with my noise project, http://www.mulletman.org/ilikepie.html(I Like Pie), a month ago I’ve found a real pressing need to start circuit bending again. I’ve been looking at this forum and it seems full of knowledgful people that are willing to help…just my kinda place Wink

A little about myself: I just moved back to Cleveland, Ohio in January 2008 after spending 5 years in Los Angeles, CA. There I acted in tv and movies, did graphic design, and video game testing. I also was a gardener for 4 years straight and am continuing my gardening here in Cleveland. I’m a hippy but not of the stinky kind. I’m also a beer snob and drink fine brews nightly even though I’m hindered by Ohio’s 12% abv cap…grrrr…

I also am a journalist and do pepper reviews for the hot sauce industry (I write for, http://www.thehotzoneonline.comThe Hot Zone Online. I generally have too many hobbies but it keeps me busy.

Certain states allow beer only to have a certain abv (alcholol by volume). Ohio just so happens to be one, so every beer you find here is 12% or less (well, that's for stores that sell it to you....it's not illegal to own a high alcholol beer.,...you just can't sell it). Which means that I would have to drive to Kentucky if I wanted to purchase Dogfish Head's World Wide Stout (which is 20%.....and soooooo tasty)

Right ... I thought there was a 15% limit or so to natural fermentation ... but some browsing reveals that Dogfish actually made a 100% abv beer Shocked Wink

Hehehe, I did hear about that prank.

I'm not sure what the limit of fermentation is. I do know the highest commecially brewed one is Utopium by Sam Adams and I think that's 24%.

I browsed around a bit more, with carefully selected champagne yeast & lots of love & sugar being spoon fed it seems to be very possible.

For now I'll just stick to a traditional Westmalle double beer, one of my favorites (but just 7%, so you need three to go over 20% Rolling Eyes )

I've had Westmalle's stuff before and can see why you like it...very tasty and crisp.

Hi Jonathan,
Oh dear, a beer drinking circuit bender, I don't think you'll fit in around here at all. Sad Laughing

Hehehe, someone on another forum just asked me recently, "What's up with you musicians and artsy types always drinking good beer?"

I really didn't have an aswer for him....

Well, for heaven's sake, somebody has to care about the finer things in life. Most people don't.

My vice is not so much beer though... now, good espresso... mmmmmmm...

I've been doing the coffee thing for the last few months, getting into the different kinds...but nothing as strong as espresso...there's so many kinds! Shocked
