The music from Fantastic Planet is my favorite. It's a spiritual movie for me, really, I won't show it to most people; last time I tried to watch it with someone they wouldn't shut up about how "trippy" and "wierd" it was...some people are like culturally crippled. Like the opposite of the rennisance...the retardisance.

But anyways, the music is excellent. If you haven't seen it you might get lucky and see it on public television.

@destroyifyer;

Wow, I wonder how I was able to miss that one from my list! That one is great. You don't have to wait until it's on TV, BTW, it's been released on DVD (I have it). That DVD also compiles other (short) works by the same director, most of which is amazing as well.

I seem to remember the OST was also re-issued on vinyl somewhere but I'd never actually seen it in person.

Yeah, it's great...it's got that short film "Le Escargot" on it, that's a good one...I was watching a interview on there too, and it's funny how, the main concept artist's mother thought the movie would be a waste of time...she was certainly mistaken.

Wages of Fear (aka Sorcerer) by William Friedkin. Tangerine Dream made the uniquely haunting music for it. Rumours have it that parts of the film was actually shot to the music. I'll add to the crowd thinking PI was rather good too.

I saw it a very long time ago but I had not recognized it because I knew its name was "La Planète sauvage" (or "Il pianeta selvaggio" in Italian).
I'd like to see it again.

The French version is where it's at. It bothers me how the dialouge differs between the subtitles on the French version and the dialouge on the English version...makes me wonder what the dialouge really is.

Not as bad as other films, where they leave all sorts of stuff out of the subtitles. They're just like, "Oh, they'll have no interest in these two lines, or the song they're singing. Better just leave it out." Come on, you lazy subtitlists. (You did very well on "Fanny and Alexander", though I might add).

Some things are impossible to translate, at least within the confines of two lines of subtitle at the bottom of a screen. This is very obvious sometimes when watching an english movie with (in my case) swedish subtitles and looking at the way they translate puns, slang or words like "serendipity".

Ry Cooder's score for Paris Texas is amazing. I remember reading an interview with Cooder's old mucker David Lindley, where he said that they'd felt the music didn't gel with the rest of the soundscape, until they noticed that the wind that was a near constant during the first half hour of the film was in roughly E flat. Once they'd tuned their intruments to that (including an old harmonium, which must have taken some doing...), it went really smoothly.

I love the use of the aria "Belle Nuit" by J Offenbach through Roberto Benigni's "Life is beautiful."

Also, Disney's use of both original scores and "borrowed songs" have been exemplary.

Van Dyke Parks' album "Jump" ought to be used in a film, but I won't hold my breath.

Whoever scored Hitchcock's "Psycho" did good too.

Also, Swedish bass player Georg Riedel did some really nice stuff for the film and TV versions of Astrid Lindgren's novels about Pippi Långstrump (Pippi Longstocking) and Emil i Lønneberga.

Hey Carlo, I'll concede your right to go OT any day - you're the King Of OT, have you forgotten? Wink
Anyway, I'm pleased to hear that the late great Astrid Lindgren is appreciated in such remote areas of the world as Firenze! Quite a few people in Scandinavia were annoyed with the Noble Literature Prize Committe for snubbed her time and again, just because too many knew of her, and that she worked within such a lowly genre as Children's Literature. Confused

I was grabbed by the music done by Eddie Vedder for the film 'Into the wild'. Simple and easy tunes, very raw and it works with both the film and the story. Beautiful. Nothing to add to that.

The movie is great and I really recommend the book, it makes you want to go!

Having watched "The Science of Sleep", and then bought the soundtrack, I have to add this to my favourite soundtracks. Movie and music are equally haunting.
